Meet the Women Behind Wente

Wente Foil
Carolyn Wente

Chief Executive Officer & 4th Generation Winegrower

Carolyn Wente is one of the driving forces behind the expansion and growth of Wente Family Estates’ portfolio of wines. She was instrumental in the development of the Wente family's lifestyle business, which has brought Wente Vineyards worldwide renown and attracted visitors from around the globe. Today Carolyn works with fourth and fifth generation family members and company executives to continue the growth of Wente Family Estates. She was chosen as one of the honorees for the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World in 2002, in an event sponsored by J.P. Morgan Private Banking, Baccarat and Hermès, among other leading luxury brands. She held the role of president of the California Wine Institute in June of 2014 – the fifth member of her family to lead the organization that her grandfather helped establish eighty years ago.

Niki Wente

Viticulture Manager & 5th Generation Winegrower

For Niki Wente, a “desk job” was never particularly appealing. A precocious student who excelled in math and science, she was significantly high-energy as a youngster and always preferred to be outdoors. During her teenage years, Niki had the opportunity to shadow Jackie Mancuso, Wente Vineyard’s leader of vineyard operations at that time. Having a female role model in the world of viticulture, in addition to the influence of her father, greatly heightened her growing interest in the field. At just 14 years old, the self-determined Niki decided to study viticulture, with her sights set on Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

In her current role, she oversees farming operations for roughly 3,000 acres of land. She makes critical decisions in the farming plans for over 200 blocks - in both the Livermore Valley and Arroyo Seco, leading the team towards improved efficiencies, with a specific focus on vine health, fruit quality, and sustainable vineyard practices. With certified sustainable vineyards through the Certified Sustainable California Winegrowing (CCSW) Alliance, Niki and her team focus on carbon sequestration, water conservation, naturally integrated pest management, minimizing chemical inputs, and reducing emissions.

Aly Wente

Director of Marketing & 5th Generation Winegrower

Aly Wente is leading the marketing efforts for the Wente Family Estates portfolio working closely with senior leadership, sales and cross-functional teams to ensure growth, alignment and focus for the brands across the portfolio: Wente Vineyards, entwine, Murrieta’s Well, Double Decker, Hayes Ranch, Ravel & Stitch, Angel’s Ink, Unsullied and the expanded portfolio of import wines including Bodega Cuarto Dominio and Blanchard & Lurton from Argentina.

Prior to joining the family business Aly held brand marketing roles at Constellation Brands, where she led strategy and development of a portfolio of their luxury brands. Most recently she managed the growth and success of Robert Mondavi Winery and Mount Veeder Winery of Napa Valley, as well as Champagne Palmer & Co. of Champagne, France.
