A Night to Remember: Wente Vineyards’ 140th Harvest Dinner

On the evening of September 9th, 2023, under the canopy of ancient olive trees in our vineyard, Wente Vineyards celebrated a remarkable milestone – our 140th Harvest Dinner. It was an enchanting evening filled with wine, music, exquisite farm-to-table cuisine, and heartfelt toasts. Here’s a recap of this unforgettable event that brought together generations of family, friends, and wine enthusiasts.

Guests arrived in style, transported to our vineyard and 100-year-old olive grove by trolley or bus. The anticipation in the air was palpable as they disembarked and were greeted with our newly released 140th Harvest Sparkling Brut, accompanied by delectable appetizers.

The table, set for 180 people beneath the ancient olive trees, was a sight to behold. The soft sunset glow over the vineyard added to the magical atmosphere. The music floating through the air set the perfect ambiance for the evening.

This special evening brought together not only wine enthusiasts but also fourth and fifth-generation members of the Wente family. Among the esteemed attendees were Eric Wente, Phil Wente, Carolyn Wente, Karl Wente, Christine Wente, Aly Wente, and Jordan Wente, a testament to the enduring legacy of the family-owned winery.

As the guests settled into their seats, Carolyn Wente, a prominent figure in the wine industry and company, delivered a heartfelt toast to the 140th anniversary. She expressed her gratitude to the guests for their unwavering loyalty, which has kept the winery a cherished, family-owned establishment for over a century.

The Mayor of Livermore Valley, John Marchand, took the stage to present a proclamation to Wente Vineyards. This proclamation recognized our service to the community and the city for 140 years. It was a touching moment that underscored the winery’s significance beyond the wines.

Phil Wente, representing the family, shared insights into the wines gracing the tables and the profound impact the Wente family has had on the wine industry. He emphasized the family’s pivotal role in shaping the world of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The evening’s culinary delights were provided by Catered Too, with each course meticulously paired with Wente Vineyards’ finest wines. The first course, a Grilled Brentwood Corn and King Crab dish with cucumbers, asparagus, and fresh tarragon, was perfectly paired with the Wente Vineyards Limited Release Sauvignon Blanc. The second course, a Frog Hollow White Peach Salad with heirloom tomatoes, burrata, and grilled radicchio, was accompanied by our nth DEGREE Chardonnay. The entrée offered a choice between a smoked wagyu filet or a farm vegetable terrine, paired excellently with the nth DEGREE Pinot Noir. Lastly, dessert was a decadent chocolate tart, a delightful conclusion to the culinary journey, paired with nth DEGREE Cabernet Sauvignon.

In the company of great friends, exceptional wines, and exquisite food, the 140th Harvest Dinner was an evening that will forever be etched in our memories. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who attended and shared in this extraordinary celebration of our rich history and promising future.

This remarkable evening celebrated not only the wines that have graced our tables for generations but also the enduring spirit of family and community that has made Wente Vineyards what it is today.

Here’s to the next 140 years of excellence and celebration. Cheers!
