Celebrating 15 Years of Environmental Stewardship: The Course at Wente Vineyards Retains Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Certification

Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary

We are thrilled to announce that The Course at Wente Vineyards has retained its prestigious designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an internationally recognized program by Audubon International. This year marks the 15th consecutive year that our course has maintained this certification, a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Under the guidance of Cody Price, The Course at Wente Vineyards has consistently prioritized the preservation of our natural landscape, the protection of local wildlife habitats, and the responsible management of our resources. Since our initial certification in 2009, we are proud to be one of over 900 golf courses worldwide to hold this esteemed certification from Audubon International, making a significant global impact in environmental stewardship.

A Legacy of Sustainability

The Wente family has always held a holistic view of sustainability, understanding that true stewardship extends beyond the vineyard and into every aspect of our land management practices. The certification of The Course at Wente Vineyards as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary is a cornerstone of this philosophy. Since the inauguration of the course, we have been committed to not only creating an exceptional golfing experience but also to preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance of our surroundings.

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, endorsed by the United States Golf Association, provides invaluable guidance in helping golf courses like ours enhance wildlife habitats and protect natural resources. Achieving and maintaining certification involves demonstrating high standards across several key areas, including Environmental Planning, Wildlife & Habitat Management, Outreach and Education, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, and Water Quality Management. Each of these areas plays a crucial role in our ongoing efforts to maintain the health and vitality of our landscape.

Why This Certification Matters

For the Wente family, the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary certification is more than just a designation—it’s a reflection of our core values. It underscores our dedication to preserving the environment for future generations while providing our guests with an immersive experience that harmonizes with the natural world. By protecting our local watershed and offering a sanctuary for wildlife, we contribute to the broader environmental health of our region.

Christine Kane, CEO of Audubon International, commended our efforts, stating, “The Course at Wente Vineyards has shown a strong commitment to its environmental program. They are to be commended for preserving the natural heritage of the area by protecting the local watershed and providing a sanctuary for wildlife on the golf course property.”

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to our ongoing sustainability initiatives. Every three years, The Course at Wente Vineyards undergoes a rigorous recertification process to ensure we continue to meet the high environmental standards set by Audubon International. This renewal is not just a recognition of past efforts, but a challenge to continue leading the way in sustainable golf course management.
